SPECIAL EVENT 1/6: Dark Money - movie screening at Activist Afternoons
Start: Sunday, January 06, 2019• 4:00 PM
End: Sunday, January 06, 2019• 6:00 PM
Dark Money is a fast-moving documentary that explores the nefarious influence of Dark Money in politics. Starting in 2008, the Koch Brothers created shadowy dark money groups to entice politicians to make a "deal with the devil" for an easy election. Those who signed on received a turnkey package called "theWorks" complete with opposition research, attack ads, even a ghostwritten letter from the candidate's wife. All services were provided at no charge as long as the candidate pledged to support the Koch agenda.
This movie isn't about partisan politics. It's about ordinary people taking a stand against corruption and defending the rule of law. Some of the movie's most likable protagonists turn out to be Montana Republicans who are not willing to play ball with the Koch machine. Although our heroes successfully exposed the illegal activities of these dark money groups and even won court judgements against some of the Montana legislators who signed on, the battle is far from over. In 2018, these same dark money groups continued to illegally recruit candidates to run against politicians who would not comply with their extremist agenda.
