Stewardship Workshop Series: Stream Restoration

Start: Sunday, March 17, 2024 1:00 PM

End: Sunday, March 17, 2024 4:00 PM

Stewardship Workshops are part of Foothills Conservancy's Our Big Backyard environmental education program. Join us each month to learn about different ways you can sustainably steward land in your backyard!

This is a 2 part educational, hands-on event intended for landowners & those curious about land conservation. In March, our topic is: Stream Restoration. We will meet in the parking area at Oak Hill Community Park & Forest and carpool to the worksite which is accessed through a private gate on the main road.

Part 1: (60 min) Hear from experts about stream health. What is it? Then learn about some of the things threatening stream health and what you can do to help! Then watch a demonstration of how to plant a cutting from a native tree/shrub on a streambank (live staking).
Part 2: (90 min) Participants will get to put their knowledge to work and help install seed matting and live stakes along a stream crossing in the park!

How to prepare: Be aware this is a primitive site. We will be outside, in fields, forests and streams, with no restrooms. Please wear close toed shoes (waterproof/muck boots if you have them, we will have a few extra available). Not all participants will need to get in the water, but be prepared to get your feet wet just in case!

What we will bring: Work gloves, tools, foldout chairs/benches/picnic blankets, snacks & waters will be provided by Foothills Conservancy.
