Stop the Inhumanity at the County Jail Coalition Day of Action
Start: Sunday, January 20, 2019• 5:00 PM
The Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus in collaboration with Stop the Inhumanity at the County Jail Coalition will host a day of action on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 5:00 pm on the corner of Euclid Avenue and East Blvd. in front of Severance Hall in University Circle.
On a weekend when we recognize the Dreamer we must mobilize to protect the Dream. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wished for a society in which people were treated humanely and allowed to live their lives free of racial bias. We must stand together and demand change, this is a moral issue that questions the conscience of those that are entrusted with enforcing the laws and ensuring that justice is indeed blind.
We demand that Cuyahoga County Council, County Executive, Armond Budish, and the Sheriff’s office bring all the Cuyahoga County Jails, including the one at the “Justice” Ctr., the Juvenile Detention Ctr., Euclid, and Bedford Hts., into compliance with the "Minimum Standards for Jails in Ohio".
We seek to elevate the level of attention to the issues regarding the Cuyahoga County Jails and to bring more people to the front lines of the fight for justice. We promise to never be silent when oppressed groups and/or minorities comes under threat. In the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "We who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive".
