Structure Hui (Part 2)

Start: Sunday, June 30, 201910:00 AM

End: Sunday, June 30, 2019 4:00 PM

In the first Hui on the 26th of May we made a solid start on our structure, making some broad decisions and moving towards a broad shared vision for how we work. Notes from that hui available here: https://bit.ly/2MAF1FK

There is still much to finish off, which we hope to do at this second day-long hui. Open to all members who want to help work out our structure.

Location is Green Party office on New North Road, Eden Terrace, Auckland Central.

No final decisions will be made at the hui. Any agreements reached will be presented to the wider group for consideration and ratification at a special meeting.

Prior to the first hui we had a submissions process for ideas and thoughts on structure. You can see those here: https://extinctionrebellion.nz/auckland/review/

Plan for the day to come. With thanks to everyone who has and will be participating in this process, XRTMA Coordination Working Group

UPDATE:

Kia ora XRTMA whanau,

Just an update on our decision-making so far. On Saturday, 26 May, we had a hui (all were invited) where we discussed some of the structural changes that we would like to see with Extinction Rebellion Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

In summary, we discussed a few main points and came to the following (not finalised) conclusions, which will be brought to another future General Membership hui to be ratified (voted on and finalised):

  1. That all structural and strategic final decisions are made by the General Membership (i.e. all members), at specified General Meetings

  2. That the Coordinators Group be renamed “Coordinators Body.” It will no longer be a Working Group, but a body that contains representatives from each working group PLUS individuals in specific roles. A decision was not yet made about whether other people can join the Coordinators Body.

  3. That all operational final decisions are made by either the Coordination Body or the Working Groups, according to their existing mandates.

  4. That the core working groups would be created by the General Membership.

  5. That within any working group, you need a quorum of 3 people in order to reach a decision.

Other things that were discussed but not concluded on include:
  • Our values and demands

  • How our decentralised structure will look

  • How often General Meetings that determine structure/strategy will take place

  • What will be our core working groups and what will be subgroups

  • How membership is determined

  • And more!

All of the above points will be brought to our next hui to be voted on and finalised, and once again all are welcome!

More detailed minutes are here and which show some of the other things we discussed.

Ngā mihi,

Sandy and the XRTMA Coordinators
