Students and Community Strike for the Climate in Freeland (Week 11)

Start: Friday, December 06, 2019 3:15 PM

End: Friday, December 06, 2019 4:45 PM

Join South Whidbey students and community members as they support this youth organized movement to protest the financing of the fossil fuel industry on the 6th of December.

Some Background Information: The top two contributors of the fossil fuel industry, in the world, are Chase and Wells Fargo, so targeting them makes the largest impact. That is not to say that other banks aren't involved. Banks, as a whole, are responsible for investing 1.9 trillion into the industry's total financing. Chase alone is responsible for 10% of the 1.9 trillion, or 196 billion dollars. This money goes towards large projects that are responsible for the extraction of fossil fuels in the Arctic. Extracting, fracking and mining carbon is detrimental to surrounding wildlife, not to mention the everyday effects of using these fuels.

We are hoping to continue these actions to maintain a presence in Freeland and to continue forming a basis for community support. Anyone interested in any further actions that will occur should RSVP to this event. You will be added to our email list and receive future notices.

Wear red in support of the action and bring your own visuals. Be prepared to march from Wells Fargo to Chase Bank and then back to Wells Fargo.

Disclaimer: We are not protesting against any of the employees at either location but we’re protesting the large amount of money that these banks invest in fossil fuels.
