Building on the success of our 2023 training, this we are offering another two-day Residential training for SU sabbatical officers and staff. The training will be of interest to any Student Union that wants to learn how to use community organising to develop students leaders, and work with local civil society organisations - schools, churches, mosques, trade unions etc. – to secure change in their campus, town, city and region.
The training will be structured to fit into Sabbatical Officer Induction programmes and support permanent staff to make plans for the coming academic year. We will introduce you to the fundamental concepts of community organising such as self-interest, leadership and relational power in SU-specific ways, and it will be delivered by experienced, professional, Community Organisers who understand your context. It is designed to support SUs considering membership of our civic alliances, or thinking about how they might engage with the world beyond their campus more impactfully. It will explore how this can be done sustainably, maximising their local and regional impact.
Cost per delegate is £440 - this includes accommodation and food. Additional nights of accommodation before and after for those who need it is available, at an additional cost.
As we believe our method is most impactful when permanent staff as well as officers are using it - we ask that each SU that wishes to send officers, also sends at least one member of staff.
This training is suitable for staff of all grades. Our 2023 training included officers, coordinators, managers, and senior leaders - all of whom rated the training highly.
