Southwest Louisiana "Better Together" Earth Day Extravaganza

Southwest Louisiana is better TOGETHER! On Earth Day, April 22, members of the Lake Charles community and communities from the surrounding areas will come together for a march and rally as they demand a safer, healthier future for their home. The event will feature speakers from the community sharing their stories of both environmental injustice and continued hope, as well as local musicians and allies.

While greedy executives are planning a massive expansion of fracked gas exportation in Southwest Louisiana, communities are already suffering from an overabundance of polluting oil, gas, and petrochemical facilities. Entire communities have been wiped out – and yet countless people who have been displaced are still fighting for their right to clean air, water, and safe homes. Southwest Louisianans are coming together to say “enough is enough!” to fossil fuel expansion and to celebrate the region's unique environment and culture.

Featuring celebrity guest speakers: Taylor Schilling (Emmy & Golden Globe nominated Actress), Rev Yearwood (Founder/Director of Hip Hop Caucus), and virtual appearance from Jane Fonda (Academy Award winning Actress & Activist)

Honorable local guest speakers: Roishetta Ozane (Founder/Director/CEO of The Vessel Project of Louisiana), James Hiatt (Founder, For A Better Bayou), Cynthia Robertson (Founder, Micah 6:8 Mission), Debra Ramirez (Concerned Citizen of Lake Charles, Environmental Advocate), Lois Malvo (Fisherville Environmental Action Now, A Mother’s Love Support Group), Paul Geary (Community Activist, Retired Union Organizer), Sharon Lavigne (RISE St. James), and more!
