Talking to Non-Socialists About Palestine Training

Start: 2023-12-04 20:00:00 UTC Eastern Standard Time (US & Canada) (GMT-05:00)

This is a virtual event

As more and more socialists heed the urgent call to push for a long-term ceasefire in Gaza and an end to Israeli apartheid, many of us feel ill-equipped to have meaningful, productive conversations with people outside socialist circles. But these conversations are crucial for building a successful movement for a free Palestine. On Monday, December 4, from 5-7pm PT/8-10pm ET, join the National Political Education Committee on Zoom for a training on Talking to Non-Socialists About Palestine.

We’ll spend the first hour discussing good practices for tough conversations: what experiences, feelings, and knowledge we each bring to the table; who and what has supported our own political development on this issue; and how to listen empathically and engage our interlocutors’ concerns in a way that may actually move the needle. In the second hour, Daphna Thier, an Israeli anti-Zionist organizer and contributor to Palestine: A Socialist Introduction, will provide historical and political context on Israel/Palestine and answer participants' questions, to give us the foundational facts necessary for future conversations.

Because of the urgency of this moment and the challenges of organizing a larger call, we are capping attendance and asking chapters to send no more than two members to this training, with the expectation that attendees will share resources and learnings from the training with fellow chapter members.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to politicaleducation@dsacommittees.org with any questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!
