Tashlich in the Park
Start: Sunday, September 16, 2018• 3:00 PM
End: Sunday, September 16, 2018• 5:00 PM
Join IfNotNow Toronto during the Days of Awe as we mark the beginning of the year 5779. The season of the Days of Awe is a time to reflect on the past year and look towards the future, both as individuals and as a community.
Tashlich, which comes from the root "to cast" involves throwing crumbs into a body of water. For our tashlich ritual we will collect stones, leaves and sticks from the park, to cast into the water, as to not disrupt our local environment.
The intention of the Tashlich ceremony is to let go of things that were not working in the past year, and to start the new year in a better place. Our ceremony will include acknowledgement of the misuse and unjust distribution of water in the West Bank and Gaza, and we will recommit ourselves to ending our community's support of the moral disaster that is the Occupation.
We will sing, share food, and perform a tashlich ritual together.
The exact location within the park will be announced soon.
**Some things to know**
You are welcome to bring friends, partners, children, etc. We will not have child-minding but children's participation is highly welcome.
The ground is likely to be uneven. We will try to find a place near benches. We will mostly be sitting on the ground with picnic blankets. You are invited to bring camping chairs, outdoor pillows, etc.
We will be outside and it could get chilly. If it happens to be rainy we will update this event with any change of plans.
