Te Tiriti o Waitangi as Sacred Covenant

Start: Monday, February 05, 2024 5:15 PM

End: Monday, February 05, 2024 7:00 PM

Join Common Grace Aotearoa as we listen to Hamish Maclean (Pākehā) speak on his Masters Thesis “Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Covenant Relationship in Aotearoa New Zealand”, hosted by Treaty academic Rev Dr Rangi Nicholson (Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga, Ngāi Tahu).

Hamish will share his insights on how Te Tiriti o Waitangi can be understood as a covenant between the two parties, in the tradition of biblical covenants from the Old and New Testaments. Hamish and Matua Rangi will also speak on what this covenantal relationship means for our national identity in the current political climate and for our churches today. There will also be time for audience pātai (questions).

This event will challenge and inspire you as we approach Waitangi Day and commemorate our sacred commitment to indigenous self-determination, justice and mutual flourishing in this land.

Doors open from 5.15pm. Event starts at 5:45pm.

Livestream will be available from the Common Grace Aotearoa Facebook page.
