Teach In: Confronting White Supremacy - Sonoma County

Start: Saturday, August 19, 201710:00 AM

NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION. This Saturday morning, we'll be responding to the national call from the Movement for Black Lives to challenge symbols and institutions of White Supremacy -- by sponsoring a Teach In on the unspoken, racist history of the Bear Flag Revolt that was launched in Sonoma, CA.

This revolt led to the theft of the Californian territory from Mexico as well as the targeted persecution of Mexican and Native American people by white settlers. We hope to create an educational space that leads us to begin challenging narratives, monuments and institutions locally, and that furthers the unity of people opposed to white supremacy. We will begin with a history of the Bear Flag Revolt, and begin engaging from there.
