THE PEOPLE'S CLIMATE SUDBURY - almost final plans

If President Trump’s administration wants to continue with 19th-century energy in the 21st century - that is their business. Canada must stand strong and lead the world to a better tomorrow.

A 30 trillion dollar business opportunity in clean tech awaits businesses and people living in countries with sound policies to address the climate crisis.

As well, given that we are one of the richest nations in the world, we have a moral and ethical responsibility to our brothers and sisters in the global south to act on the climate crisis.

In September 2014, Sudburians participated in the largest climate march ever worldwide.  We are back and want everyone to know Sudbury is still one of the many communities that is leading the world in tackling the climate crisis.

We can build a better world because of the climate crisis. It is forcing us to connect and not be selfish. Community is key and will save us in the end.

We hope you will join us Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, in the parking lot on Elgin beside/under the Bridge of Nations and across the street from the Samaritan Centre.

Outline of the event:

12:00 pm - help needed setting up and getting people oriented to the day because there will be audience participation.

12:30 pm - people arrive and get their assignments.

12:55 pm - assemble in a circle (if there is less than 50 people) or "whatever" if there are too many people. We will make it work. We will need help getting people in position.

1:00 pm - Official Welcome from from our emcee for the day Kalee Earle. She will read a "Canadianized" version of the media release from 350.org for the day and acknowledge we are on traditional Atikameksheng First Nations Territory.

1:05 pm - Ojibwe Welcome song. Because we are not walking very far, we are asking women and anyone who aligns with being female, if they are comfortable, to wear beautiful skirts. Please bring your hand drums too.

1:10 - 1:20 - Two or Three speeches
- William Morin: First Nations and climate change
- Robert McCarthy: People with disabilities and climate change
- A young person may speak about how climate change disproportionally impacts women and children

1: 20 - 1:30 (may take more time of there are too many people) line-up for a picture. We are taking great care to make sure this picture will be memorable. That is why the set-up and arriving early is so helpful

In conclusion
- please bring hand drums and be prepared to sing the welcome song
- please wear a beautiful skirt if it aligns with your way
- together, through arts and visuals we will create a memory and community.

Rain or shine, we are going to stand up for the climate.
