The People's Org Fair: Where Do We Go from Here?
Start: Saturday, November 09, 2024•11:00 AM
YDSA UW-Madison is hosting The People's Org Fair this Saturday, November 9, a conference to connect with campus organizations, unions and hear from community and campus leaders about socialist organizing in the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election.
The results of the election are understandably upsetting, and it is important to understand the consequences properly.Leftists are not to blame for the victory of Trump, and do not deserve to be gaslighted for this result. Moreover, this should not be understood as the fault of Trump directly, but the fault of liberalism and the capitalist system itself.
If we understand Trump to be a fascist, we understand he needs to be defeated. But he is a product of the capitalist system, he was legitimized as a candidate proper in the official elections process, and legitimized by his primary opponent, Kamala Harris, who agreed to debate the fascist and will accept that the system she fought to preserve just legitimately allowed and handed a victory to a fascist. We just witnessed the rallying cry of liberalism fail to defeat literally the worst candidate in American history. Nothing could speak greater to the failure of this system to defend all working people, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, legal status, nationality, etc.
Liberalism cannot defeat fascism, only the organized working class can. We are not defeated when the contradictions of capitalism become most severe— this is when we are activated. Now is the time to organize as a class against Trump and capitalism and realize a true alternative out of the false promises of liberalism.
Now is not the time to give up. We must fight for ourselves, for our immigrant, queer and BIPOC working brothers and sisters.
Come to The People’s Org Fair, this Saturday, Nov 9 at 12pm at Tripp Commons, and let’s take back the fight for the working people!
