Tiger Mountain Community Forest Walk
Start: Saturday, September 28, 2024•11:00 AM
Celebrate National Public Lands Day by hiking through beautiful mature forest on Snoqualmie ancestral lands. The areas we’ll visit are protected by the Climate Commitment Act (CCA) and the National Resource Conservation Area (NRCA) system, including what had - until recently - been a scheduled timber sale!
First, we’ll hike a flat half-mile to a wooded grove, where we’ll eat lunch and have conversation.
After that, anyone who wishes to continue will climb a moderately steep two miles through mature, protected 80 year old forest. At the end of the climb we’ll enter gorgeous 120 year old protected forest, including old growth trees and snags and showcasing the transition from Doug fir - hemlock forest to silver fir - hemlock forest.
For the short hike, expect a one mile round trip with around 200 ft of elevation gain. For the long hike, expect a five mile round trip with around 1000 ft of elevation gain. Both hikes will be on good established trails, though expect frequent roots and rocks. Please come prepared for the weather report.
In order to reduce our impact on the land we’ll be limiting this event to 25 people. We recommend carpooling, message olive at 360-329-7266 for carpool info from Olympia and Tacoma.
We’ll be meeting at the Tiger Summit Trailhead (East Tiger Mountain State Forest) at 11 am. The Google Maps link and coordinates below will take you to the right spot. You're looking for a trailhead about a quarter mile up a dirt road past the large, potholed parking lot right off WA-18. Follow signs for "Tiger Summit Trailhead."
