Tiger Mountain Community Hike to "London Burl" Timber Sale

Start: Sunday, January 21, 2024 9:30 AM

Thank you for registering for a forest outing to Tiger Mountain State Forest. We will be visiting the "London Burl" timber sale, a beautiful naturally regenerated forest, and hiking through "Pertnear," a recent clearcut. We’ll see mature Douglas firs in a popular recreation area on Snoqualmie ancestral land that is threatened by logging. On the hike we will learn what makes this forest unique and ecologically important, what species of plants and trees live in this forest, and what we can do to protect it. London Burl is one of the last structurally complex mature forests in the area and is slated to be auctioned off for clearcut logging by the Department of Natural Resources unless the community takes steps to protect it!

Logistics: The hike is Sunday, 1/21/24, starting at 9:30 am. We will meet at 9:30 am at the West Tiger Mountain Parking lot (47.46640704519682, -121.93108251037188). HERE is the google maps location. We will then carpool 6 minutes down the road to the London Burl trailhead. The hike will be 8 miles roundtrip on good trails and forest roads with 1,000 ft. of elevation gain. Dogs are allowed on leash. Please bring lunch and appropriate gear for the weather - we’ll go snow or shine.

What to bring: Weather-appropriate clothing, hiking footwear, water, food, face mask, discover pass.
