Cancelled - Door knocking for Refugee Rights

Start: Saturday, April 13, 202410:00 AM

End: Saturday, April 13, 2024 5:00 PM

Unfortunately this event has been cancelled.

Cost of living crisis, low pay, crumbling NHS... Whilst the greedy elite get richer, our communities are destroyed. As a distraction, we are told to blame refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants - but what do people in Wythenshawe really think?

What are they struggling with, what do they want for themselves and their loved ones, and who do they blame for the lack of resources around them?

The neighbour movement wants to create connected communities that support those seeking safety. We know that we are divided, but we believe that together, we are stronger.

We believe in a world where everyone can live in comfort and safety. We believe in a society that welcomes and supports those seeking safety. We believe that the first step towards building this is having open and honest conversations.

Join us for a day of door knocking, honest conversations, and good food.

More information below. This event is free, but spaces are limited - sign up now!

What will we be doing and why?

We will be going door-knocking in the local area to talk about refugee and migrant issues. The day will involve a training session, a door-knocking session, and a debrief session. The day will run from 10am to 5pm and we will be using persuasive canvassing techniques. Lunch, refreshments, and all materials will be provided.

What support will be available? What will the day be like? Do I need any previous experience?

No previous experience of door-knocking is necessary! In fact, the newer the better, as in the near future we hope that through the training and resources provided by us, anyone will be able to set up a canvassing session in their area.

We will provide full training on-the-day including a script role-play, FAQs on the doorstep, and a safety and wellbeing briefing. No one will be going out alone, and the Organising Team will be on hand at all points to answer any questions or deal with any issues that arise. We will provide all materials including lunch and refreshments.

How do I sign up?

Easy - just fill in the form on this page. You should receive an email confirmation, and we will be in touch nearer to the date with some logistical information and (very brief) pre-reading.

What if I have access needs, or need to contact you?

Our form asks if you have any access needs, please let us know about them (and any accommodations you may need to participate) there.

If you'd like to discuss anything in particular with a member of the organising team, please contact us on organising@freedomfromtorture.org or text Katie on 07376701474. We will do our best to accommodate your access needs, including financial ones if cost is a barrier to you attending.
