To Save the Climate, Costco Must Clean Up Its Citibank Credit Card
Start: Saturday, November 18, 2023•11:00 AM
End: Saturday, November 18, 2023• 1:00 PM

Costco, the third largest retailer in the US, has a credit card partnership with Citibank, the world’s second largest funder of climate-wrecking fossil fuels. To reduce the lender's massive climate pollution, Climate First!, as part of a nationwide campaign, is asking Costco to request that Citi stop financing fossil fuel expansion, or Costco will find a cleaner credit card elsewhere. Costco will not be happy to lose this profitable credit card relationship.
Join Climate First! this Saturday morning, November 18, 2023 outside the Costco Store in Wheaton, Maryland where we will ask Costco members to sign our petition requesting the company to tell Citibank to do right by the climate or else.
We will provide flyers, petitions, and pens for everyone involved in this action; please bring a clipboard if you have one. Also, bring any snacks and liquids that you may need, or you can shop at the food stores in the mall. In addition, dress appropriately for the weather; fortunately, it looks to be sunny (but cool) tomorrow.
FYI: If a Costco employee requests that we stop petitioning and/or leave their property, we will honor their request. Please remember that Citibank, with its egregious fossil fuel funding, is the bad guy here, not Costco. Finally, we are not planning any civil disobedience in this action.
If you can attend all or part of the petitioning action, please RSVP. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ted at tconwell@climatefirst.us .
