TPP, MILITARISM AND OBAMA’S PACIFIC PIVOT WEBINAR

Start: 2016-02-21 19:30:00 UTC Eastern Time (US & Canada) (GMT-05:00)

End: 2016-02-21 21:00:00 UTC Eastern Time (US & Canada) (GMT-05:00)

This is a virtual event

In all the administration’s touting of the Pacific Pivot being necessary for the United States to control global trade and investment in the region, the enforcement mechanisms never quite seems to make it into the public debate.  Yet time and time again, we see violence and militarism expanded in countries that have signed on to free trade agreements in order to protect the investment rights of transnational corporations.  Big Agriculture, huge fishing fleets, and mining interests, all require military expansion in order to enforce free trade deals that trample the rights of the native peoples of the Pacific Islands.

Please join Arnie Saiki, coordinator of Moana Nui Action Alliance in California. Based on a series of conferences between the International Forum on Globalization and Pacific Island activists, academics and practitioners, Moana Nui addresses economic and military hegemony in the Pacific.

Arnie was also the Research Director for Statehood Hawai’i and keeps a blog, Imipono Projects. Most currently, he is participating in the World Bank Fragility, Conflict and Violence Forum in March, and working with partner groups in the Pacific on West Papua liberation and opposing Experimental Seabed Mining.
