We call on the MA legislature and the Baker administration to address this problem and embrace our vision for a zero-emission public transportation system that does not leave anybody behind.
Join us at the Framingham commuter rail station to make our voices heard.
Here are some of the reasons that we are calling for increased funding for public transportation options like the commuter rail, the Regional Transit Authority (RTA), and the MBTA:
Fairness and dignity: Public transportation must offer accessible and affordable options for residents to reach their work, schools, and other places in their daily routines. People deserve a dependable system. Having lives disrupted and dependent on infrequent and sporadic RTA schedules is not acceptable.
Public health: Communities of color and lower income communities have higher rates of asthma due to pollution. By reducing opportunities for people to use public transportation, the state is actively pushing people to use cars, increasing congestion and pollution, threatening public health.
Our economy: Our businesses thrive when riders can access them through public transportation, and the RTAs are an essential part of the economic ecology of areas outside the MBTA.
Climate Change: Increased Greenhouse Gas Emissions caused by the increased cars on the road are contributing to a rapidly changing climate which will threaten the livelihoods of Bay Staters from all over Massachusetts. The RTAs are a eco-friendly alternative to cars.
One ride on the T isn't enough - we need Charlie Baker and his administration to fund a systemic transformation to make our public transportation (including the commuter rail, regional transit authorities, and the MBTA) affordable, accessible, reliable, and green.
