Truck Pollution Town Hall with Illinois Senator Cervantes
Start: Thursday, October 24, 2024• 5:30 PM
End: Thursday, October 24, 2024• 7:00 PM
Warehouses are a major contributor to truck pollution. Their square footage has grown 34% in the last decade in Illinois alone. One in five Illinoisans now live within one-half mile of over 4,300 warehouses which generate over 645,000 polluting truck trips each day.
The pollutants in truck exhaust are a leading cause of childhood asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and stroke, killing over 1,300 people every year in the Chicagoland region alone. The health impacts from truck pollution cost Illinois about $4.6 billion on an annual basis. Environmental justice communities, those on the frontlines of pollution, face a disproportionate burden of health, economic, and social impacts.
Join us for a town hall on Thursday, October 24th at 5:30pm at the McKinley Park Field House at 2210 W. Pershing Road to hear about truck pollution and all of its impacts on our communities, how we can protect ourselves, and help inform draft legislation for the Illinois General Assembly to address this growing crisis.
Hosted by a coalition of environmental, workers’ rights, and environmental justice advocates working to address the health impacts of truck pollution.
