The US has taken the crucial first step to back a waiver of intellectual property protections for vaccines, but this only happened because hundreds of people took action through protests, while tens of thousands made calls and signed letters. As COVID-19 continues to devastate communities in India, Brazil, and around the world, a shortage of vaccine supplies means that several countries will not achieve herd immunity until as late as 2024. With pharma fighting back even harder to protect patents and technologies, it's all hands on deck to win the next stage and guarantee vaccine access for communities across the globe.
