Vigil to End Official Silence on NC's Role in Torture

Start: Wednesday, June 26, 201912:00 PM

NC No Torture

June 26 is the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. Join us in respectfully urging the Governor to end the official silence on North Carolina's role in torture.

On June 26, North Carolina Representative David Price will read the executive summary of Torture Flights, the seminal report from the North Carolina Commission of Inquiry on Torture

, into the Congressional record.

On June 25, the North Carolina Council presented a letter to Governor Cooper's office calling for an investigation into torture related activity in North Carolina and Aero Contractors, the private contractor responsible for conducting over 80 percent of CIA renditions during the program's first phase. The letter is signed by over 50 judicatory heads and faith representatives, as well as the Council's governing board.

The Council also presented a list of Action Items, in hopes that the Governor will act to finally acknowledge the role of our state in torture. View the list of Action Items here.
