Villains of Silicon Valley: DC Walking Tour
Start: Saturday, July 01, 2023• 1:00 PM
End: Saturday, July 01, 2023• 3:15 PM
The Villains of Silicon Valley: DC Walking Tour, starting at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 1st at Freedom Plaza (1350 Pennsylvania Ave. NW) will explore sites in downtown DC connected to how Silicon Valley leaders used institutions in Washington DC to promote a capitalist world order over the past century.
The Walking Tour will be led by best-selling author Malcolm Harris and draws from material and research for his most recent book Palo Alto: A History of California, Capitalism, and the World. The Villains of Silicon Valley: DC Walking Tour will explore sites related to the spread of US labor and business practices worldwide through President Herbert Hoover, the global networks distributing technology that represented the real “Iran-Contra” scandal in the 1980s, and contemporary conservative organizing to promote capitalism in the District. The Walking Tour will connect attendees to contemporary education and organizing in the DMV through Metro DC DSA to fight capitalism and build a better world.
The tour will visit 3 sites in Downtown DC. The tour will
meet in the center of Freedom Plaza at 1:00 pm, and the tour will
adjourn at 3:15 pm just north of the starting location downtown after around 1.5 miles of walking, followed by a happy hour afterward. We will
provide snacks and water on the tour. The Walking Tour is hosted by
Metro DC DSA’s Political Education Working Group.
