Voters Denied: Pulling Back The Curtain

Start: Thursday, January 25, 2018 7:00 PM

We are excited to join together with Mainstream Coalition to be hosting an event that is strictly focused on voting in Kansas. It will be a casual town hall setting, where we will try to answer the following questions. The event will last one and a half hours, with the speaker portion going for half-hour and then we will open up the floor to questions from attendees.

  • What are the illegalities behind the voting laws in Kansas? How have they been remedied?
  • How has the Voter Id laws impacted voting numbers in Kansas, especially with young people? What are the impacts of gerrymandering to Kansas democratic values?
  • What is Crosscheck? What are the implications of its mishandling of sensitive Kansas voter data?
  • How will these issues be addressed in the upcoming legislative session in the House Elections Committee? What bills will be introduced?

Our moderator will be Melinda Lewis, Associate Professor of Practice, KU School of Social Welfare

Our speakers will be:

  • Davis Hammet, Loud Light
  • Anita Parsa, Voters Against Crosscheck
  • Rep. Brett Parker, House Elections Committee member
  • Micah Kubic, ACLU of Kansas
