This month, we'll watch a 30-minute video interview with World BEYOND War Co-Founder & Executive Director David Swanson on his book War Is A Lie. In this interview, Swanson discusses the lies behind many wars and the lies told after wars to justify more wars. Following the video, Chapter Coordinator Al Mytty will facilitate a group discussion.

The goal of World BEYOND War is to abolish the institution of war, which is the sustained coordinated combat between groups leading to large numbers of casualties; highly organized, pre-planned mobilizations of forces; and the self-perpetuating institutions + policies + war technologies/industries + set of interlocked beliefs and values that are mostly unquestioned. As will be discussed in the video presentation, David Swanson's book War Is A Lie is a thorough refutation of every major argument used to justify wars, drawing on evidence from numerous past wars, with a focus on those that have been most widely defended as just and good.

David Swanson is an author, activist, journalist, and radio host. His books include War Is A Lie, When the World Outlawed War, and War No More: The Case for Abolition. He is a Co-Founder and the Executive Director of World BEYOND War and a campaign coordinator for RootsAction.org. He was instrumental in exposing the Downing Street Minutes and other evidence of Iraq war lies. He is a 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, and the winner of the 2018 Peace Prize by the U.S. Peace Memorial Foundation. Based in Charlottesville, VA, David initiated and led the successful campaign to divest the city from weapons and fossil fuels.
