WEBINAR: Black Resistance in the Belly of the Beast

Start: 2021-03-24 19:00:00 UTC Eastern Standard Time (US & Canada) (GMT-05:00)

This is a virtual event

Join Dissenters on Wednesday March 24th from 7-8:30pm ET for this online conversation on Black resistance in the “belly of the beast.” From chattel slavery to the violent enforcement of Jim Crow segregation, and from the brutal policing of Black communities to the disproportionate deporation of Black immigrants, Black people in the heart of U.S. empire have long faced the militarized violence associated with upholding racial capitalism on this land and beyond. And for just as long, Black folks have resisted empire, broken free from chains, built community and movements that transcend borders, and forged understandings of ourselves and our position in the world in a global context.

Building on a rich legacy of Black resistance to U.S. imperialism and global capitalism that has transcended the confines of borders and nations, we are excited to dive into the history and future of Black internationalism on the path toward liberation for all. This event will feature the powerful voices of Khury Petersen-Smith of the Institute for Policy Studies and Dissenters’ Advisory Committee, political theorist & author Adom Getachew, Thenjiwe McHarris from Movement for Black Lives, and Deborah of the Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project.
