Last week, on the 50th anniversary of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, NYPD officers shot and killed Saheed Vassell, a Black man with a mental illness, in Brooklyn, New York.

Saheed was well-known in his neighborhood. He was a devoted father. He was part of a community. His death is yet another example of the fatal intersections between gun violence, police violence, racism, and ableism, all of which have taken the lives of so many before him.

As people who care about gun violence in this country, we must continue to educate ourselves about it in all of its forms. That includes gun violence committed by police.

Join Women's March for a webinar on April 17, 2018, to discuss the issue of police shootings and to learn how you can get more involved in local efforts to promote police accountability.
