As California’s wildfire season becomes longer and more intense each year, farmers are struggling to maintain operations while managing dangerous fuels. To address this growing concern, the California Climate & Agriculture Network (CalCAN) and the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) are working together to champion the expansion and adoption of proven wildfire mitigation and resilience practices statewide; specifically in areas with chronic impacts like the Sonoma County region.

In partnership with Sarah Keiser of Wild Oat Hollow and Alexa and Curtis Wall of Luma California Farms, we invite you to join us at LUMA California Farms in Penngrove on Tuesday, July 26th from 9 am-12 noon for a field day on sustainable, diverse food production, collaborative land stewardship, and wildfire resilience. Attendees will include dedicated farmers and graziers, land stewards, indigenous fire ecologists, wildfire prevention and suppression practitioners, and local and state policymakers.

The purpose of the field day is twofold:

  1. To see first hand and discuss best practices in the field related to soil health, cooperative land stewardship, and targeted grazing for fuel reduction

  2. To discuss the challenges and policy opportunities to scale up this important work

Additional details, such as the agenda, site map, and discussion points will be shared once you confirm your ability to attend on Tuesday, July 26th from 9 am-12 noon. Please RSVP soon as space is limited. Light refreshments and a catered lunch from the local Oliver’s Market will be provided! Interested participants are asked to fill out this dietary preference form in advance and acknowledge the media release waiver.

We appreciate your support for climate resilient agriculture and look forward to seeing you in the field!

Sincerely,
