Wollongong for wind: We want a safe climate!

Start: Saturday, December 09, 202312:00 PM

Ahead of us looms a summer of heat with millions of Australians who can't afford air conditioning, to go to the pool or who don't have access to affordable transport and community services. 2023 has seen record-breaking heatwaves, floods and extreme weather across the globe. Meanwhile, millions of Australians are struggling to cope with a huge increase in the cost of living and an untenable housing crisis. Young people across the country are looking for leadership and a plan that will address these crises and take care of our communities.

Join Tomorrow Movement Wollongong at the Wollongong Arts Precinct for a community art installation and demonstration. We’re inviting community members to make paper windmills that will be delivered to Labor to demonstrate community support for clean energy and an urgent transition to net zero, and to call on Labor to deliver an ambitious climate jobs plan in line with the science.

There is strong community support for urgent, coordinated action to solve the climate crisis. We want to see large-scale investment in the renewable energy industry in the Illawarra with community benefits embedded, so we can all have a safe and just future.

We're calling on Labor to deliver a transformative plan for climate and jobs that tackles the climate, housing and economic crises at the scale and speed necessary, raises the rate of income support payments and invests in climate-readiness community supports.

We're excited to make some art and have meaningful conversations with the community about our hopeful vision for the future of our region. Can't wait to see you there!
