We're getting a few common questions, so here are some answers:
Q. How close is the train station?
Close. Walk is less than 1/2 mile
WEST on Hickory to arrive at the Square (you'll see the courthouse top from the train station).
Q. Will the rally be safe for children?
We've worked hard to create a family-friendly event. We've involved public safety officers from the county and city in our planning.
Q. Can men come?
Absolutely!
Q. Can I bring a sign? Can I bring a backpack?
Yes and yes. There will be a sign-making table as well for those who would like to make a sign on site.
Q. Where is the event exactly.?
We'll be outside on the Courthouse Museum lawn. Dress warmly as needed. The address is 110 Hickory. We will march a short distance from there and back.
Q. Will there be restrooms?
Yes. There are restrooms on all 4 flours of the Courthouse building and at the Visitors Center across the street on Hickory.
Q. What's going to happen in the rally?
The theme this year is Women's Wave There will be voter registration during the event as well as candidates' and other tables. Speakers will address some of the difficult issues we have faced this past year, such as assaults on immigrant rights, transgender rights, hostility toward people of color, harassment and assault of women, financial burdens places on the middle and working classes, but also victories such as the explosion of activism we have seen and the electoral victories women have had around the country. We will have music and we will affirm all our hard work this past year.
Q. Are you expecting counter-protesters?
We are prepared for counter-protesters but have not heard any significant reports. We strongly urge all participants to NOT FEED T'HE TROLLS.
Q. I've seen Denton Women's March and Denton Wxmen's March. Are these different events?
No, they are the same event in Denton. The Women's March which is in its 3rd year now is partnering with the Denton Wxmen's Collective to bring as much diversity and representation as possible to this year's march in accordance with the Unity Principles.
Q. What can I do to make this event successful?
1. Show up!
2. Bring your friends and family!
3. Connect with other participants. This event is about where we've been and where we are going. We are all seasoned activists now and there's no going back. Let's bring this demoralizing period of American politics to a quick close and reaffirm our nation's values. Let's enjoy our gratitude toward one another for all that we have done this past year against great odds.
4. Let's leave Denton remembering that ours is the largest movement in the history of the world and that last year there was not one single arrest worldwide. Please clean up after yourself and be careful not to leave no damage.
We're putting together a powerful coalition of folks from North Texas and beyond. We can't wait to see all of you on Saturday!
