Building Our Bench
First and foremost, Women’s March 2019 is about celebration. For two years, we worked tirelessly to change the social and political landscape of our country. In the face of massive bigotry, xenophobia, misogyny, and disregard for laws and norms, we stood strong and united with love and purpose to protect our communities and our planet. So we take this opportunity to be thankful for our accomplishments and grateful for the opportunity to work together toward the common good.
But our work isn’t over yet. In business, they talk about the importance of building the bench – building depth at the bottom, middle, and top -- to ensure that the team can sustain its performance over time. And this is what we must do. We must invest in our community so that we all have the skills and tools we need to be successful over time.
So this year we want to focus on building our bench. We want to highlight people and organizations that are investing in our community of girls, women, and other underrepresented groups…educating them, mentoring them, and helping them build strength in their minds and in their bodies. We hope that by bringing attention to the amazing work that’s going on in Southern Oregon, we can encourage a more diverse group of people to get involved, step up, and become the leaders that we know they can be.
Women's March Southern Oregon 2019 is part of a national movement to empower everyone who stands for women’s rights, human rights, civil liberties, and social justice for all. We are unified in our goal to respond to misogyny, arrogance, and the abuse of power, and we will not be silent.
This is a non-partisan and peaceful event.
