Women's March York

Start: Saturday, January 21, 201712:00 PM

THIS MARCH IS INCLUSIVE AND ALL ARE WELCOME.

On January 21 2017, the first day of Donald Trump’s Presidency, women-led marches, welcoming all participants, will take place across the world, with the largest expected in Washington D.C.. We call on people of all genders to march in York as part of an international day of action in solidarity.

We will march, wherever we march, for the protection of our fundamental rights and for the safeguarding of freedoms threatened by recent political events. We unite and stand together for the dignity and equality of all peoples, for the safety and health of our planet and for the strength of our vibrant and diverse communities.

We will come together in the spirit of democracy, honouring the champions of human rights who have gone before us. Please spread the word, so that our numbers are too great to ignore and the message to the world is clear. The politics of fear and division have no place in 2017.THIS MARCH IS INCLUSIVE AND ALL ARE WELCOME.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

*I will add to this the more as I gather more information on who will be involved with speaking - if you would like to speak/sing/read a poem/do an interpretative dance, let me know! I also need stewards to make sure people don't get run over... Health & Safety and all that*

I set this up on Monday night after realising there wasn't a march in York; why should we miss out?! So, as it is this Saturday, unfortunately, I cannot organise as long a march as I would have liked, but still - we have to do what we can!

I have been frantically getting together what I can; I've spoken to the non-emergency police and the Council so they know it's happening. I've contacted the York Press and spreading the word as much as possible, but I need you to do it, too!

The non-emergency police have given me an acceptable walking route that's been approved. This route is about 20 minutes long. Of course, at key stops, I would love to have speakers or musicians or messages of hope! If you would like to be involved with this or know anyone who would, please get in touch with me or ask your pals to contact me. It could make all the difference! With speakers and songs, I'd like this to last about an hour. Just one hour on your Saturday to come and stand in solidarity with the Women's March on Washington, and for the world.
