#WomenStrike Picket in Gainesville
Start: Saturday, January 21, 2017• 1:00 PM
End: Saturday, January 21, 2017• 3:00 PM
With five buses and multiple community members flying directly to DC, Gainesville feminists and allies will be proudly and loudly represented in DC! There is also a Women's March on Tallahassee, two hours away.
National Women's Liberation is holding a picket for those who will be in town Saturday as a sister action with the Women's March on Washington and the 2-day Women's Strike (www.womenstrike.org). As locals know, Newberry Road by the mall is a highly visible place to show our solidarity for women's liberation and support the dignity all oppressed people and build a serious resistance movement where we live. We chose to picket in front of the Hobby Lobby store, which has a long history of woman-hating and taking multiple cases to the Supreme Court to deny women and workers basic health care like birth control. They are also beloved by the incoming Trump, Pence and Republican Congress. But this movement and our march and actions are so much more than Trump or Hobby Lobby. We are not just protesting against them, we have a positive vision for the world we want to build and invite you to join in!
WE STRIKE FOR
- An end to racist and sexual assaults, and all forms of bigotry
- Reproductive freedom, full access, and no coercion
- National Health Care for all
- A $15 minimum wage for all workers, no exceptions
- Protection and expansion of Social Security
- Childcare, free like the public schools, and paid family leave
- R-E-S-P-E-C-T
NWL, Gainesville Area National Organization for Women (NOW) and other organizations are in the process of finalizing plans for this picket, including a sign-making party, and activities. There is a general meeting Tuesday Jan 10th at 7pm to help plan this event and other feminist agitation: RSVP to nwl@womensliberation.org for more details!
