What is Worker Wednesdays?

Every last Wednesday of the month, workers and community allies gather virtually on zoom to mobilize and organize for worker justice in BC. Worker Wednesdays offers a space to find pathways to obtain worker-led demands and to take action for legislative change to ensure workers are protected.

We encourage everyone to participate in whatever way feels best to them, whether that's camera on or off, being a listener, or using the chat to share their thoughts.

What happened last Worker Wednesday?

• We heard from Chris Sorio, Secretary-General of Migrante BC, on the Status for All campaign and the historical opportunity to secure equal rights for 1.7 million people
• Workers are rising! We heard from workers, members, and allies who attended our August 8 Status for All Day of Action on their experiences and what drove them as workers to fight for their rights
• No climate justice without worker justice! Our Climate-Labour coordinator Jen Kostuchuk joined us to speak on our Climate-Labour Day of Action, and give updates on our ongoing project to bring the workers' movement and climate movement together
• Justice Delayed is Justice Denied! Our campaign to increase funding to the Employment Standards Branch to ensure no worker is left waiting is ongoing and we shared an exciting update -the province included our demand in its budget recommendation report! The fight is not over though - now, we have to ensure increased funding for workers' protections becomes a reality!
• We took action! Workers are rising across BC and ready to stand up and fight for their rights. We all partook in a phone bank to call Prime Minister Trudeau, Immigration Minister Fraser and our Members of Parliament to demand STATUS FOR ALL! Workers are taking their rights into their own hands, to build a better world for us all!
