Why we’re mobilizing

During a time when our democracy is at stake, it is vital that we have a band of moral witnesses who will join together to mobilize and organize for a movement vote to save our democracy!

We know it will take a fusion coalition to address the interlocking injustices of systemic racism, systemic poverty, ecological devastation and the denial of healthcare, militarism, and the false moral narrative of religious nationalism. Over 40 percent of the nation, or over 135 million people, are poor or one emergency away from economic ruin. Poor and low-wealth people account for one-third of eligible voters and, yet, political campaigns have too often ignored our pressing concerns. In this election year and beyond, we aim to change that.

As mobilizing partners, we come together around this collective agreement that the following principles must be addressed in order to create democracy that truly includes all:

The Poor People’s Campaign 17-Point Agenda

  1. Abolishing poverty as the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S.

  2. A living minimum wage of at least $15 +/hour (indexed for inflation)

  3. Full and expanded voting rights

  4. No more voter suppression

  5. Guaranteed workers’ rights & labor rights

  6. Healthcare for all

  7. Affordable, adequate housing

  8. Strong social welfare and safety net programs

  9. An end to gun violence, profit and proliferation

  10. Fully protected women’s rights

  11. Environmental justice that secures clean air & water

  12. Justice for all Indigenous nations

  13. Fully-funded public education

  14. Just immigration laws

  15. Addressing militarism and the war economy

  16. Standing for peace not war, calling for an immediate cease fire in Gaza that allows immediate humanitarian relief a release of all hostages, peace and justice be pursued, and an end to genocide around the world

  17. An end to hate, division, and the extremist political agenda

We know the power of our vote can impact policies at the state and federal level, which is why we call on all elected officials to use the power of their position to fully address these injustices.

We call on the electorate to take note where candidates stand on these policy issues. It will take the power of the collective to realize the nation we have yet to be, where we can all thrive and realize our true potential.

Register to be a mobilizing partner today and join us as we organize poor and low-income people across the country, building our power, changing the narrative, and shifting what is politically possible.
