8/14/17 - Missouri Mondays - Contact your City Officials

Donald Trump has declared that the U.S. will pull out of the Paris Agreement, abandoning our global leadership on climate change while also putting future generations at risk. The good news is that we can reach 60% of the goals of the Paris Agreement through local and state policies, like commitments to get to 100% renewable energy sources. So this week our Call to Action is to call your city officials and ask What are you doing to make sure that we reach 100% renewable energy locally?

Call your City Hall, talk to your Mayor, council person or ask the receptionist who is the best person to talk to about sustainability issues.

You: Hello, I would like to make a comment to ____________ about the climate crisis. (If you do not know the appropriate aide to speak with, feel free to say, “I’d like to speak with the individual in your office who handles sustainability issues.”)

Leader/representative’s staff member: Certainly. I can transfer you to _______.

You: Thank you. My name is ______ ________, and I live in [City]. I’m calling because the science shows that climate change is already posing risks to our health and harming our economy. On November 4, 2016, the Paris Agreement entered into force and provides a frame work to smoothly transition to a low-carbon, sustainable future. I would like (Senator, Mayor, Congresswoman, councilperson etc.) __________ to support the laws, policies, and initiatives needed to meet our obligations in the agreement.  What are you doing to make sure that we reach 100% renewable energy locally?

Tell them you are interested in YOUR city becoming more environmentally friendly and see if there are any upcoming meeting you could attend on this subject.

As always, let us know how it went!
