About Face: Veterans Against the War is a fourteen year old organization (formerly known as Iraq Veterans Against the War) made up of post-9/11 veterans who are against the unending “Global War on Terror” and growing US militarism and who are organizing to build a demilitarized future.

About Face is seeking a campaign manager to help build, develop, and lead our national Drop the MIC (Military Industrial Complex) campaign. The campaign manager will be responsible for supporting strategic planning and for organizing and mobilizing current and potential members and supporters to advance work that aligns with the campaign goals: demilitarized communities, a just energy transition, and divestment from war profiteers.

The primary work of the Campaign Manager consists of tracking and maintaining day-to-day campaign operations, building a campaign team of active members and supporters, engaging with coalition and movement partners around Drop the MIC, and working with About Face Co-Directors on a variety of tasks, including assisting with fundraising and communications work.  

Candidates should possess strong organizational skills including comfort with in person, online, and over the phone one-on-ones; experience with facilitating groups and holding workshops, trainings, and public events; and a commitment to work planning and tracking. Ideal candidates are those who are familiar with the work of About Face, have a strong knowledge of grassroots campaigns and a background in organizing, project management, or similar responsibilities. Compensation is $42,000-$49,000/ year (depending on skills, experience, and location) along with employer-paid/subsidized health insurance, and two weeks of paid vacation with annual increase in PTO. We also offer paid professional development opportunities. The campaign manager can work from our national office in New York City or remotely and should expect frequent travel (1-2 times per month and sometimes more).  

The Campaign Manager is responsible for Drop the MIC campaign development and execution with support from co-directors, other staff, and existing active member and supporter structures.

Responsibilities include but aren’t limited to:

  • Supporting the development of campaign framework and strategy

  • Developing regular member communications and supporter communications related to Drop the MIC

  • Managing campaign team including phone, online, email, and in person communications

  • Organizing campaign gatherings and trainings to support member engagement, education, and skill-building related to Drop the MIC

  • Coordinating with other About Face staff about Drop the MIC campaign and other About Face work.

  • Coordinating the Drop the MIC campaign with our coalition partners

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience with grassroots membership organizations and campaign management

  • Familiarity working with multiracial communities and supporting the leadership of people historically marginalized

  • Knowledge of: Email, MS Office, Google docs, Dropbox, and Slack

  • Skills in creating persuasive communications

  • Experience working with teams and shared leadership structures

  • Support of About Face’s Mission, Values, and Vision

Additional Experience (appreciated but not required)

  • Experience and working knowledge of popular education and transformative organizing

  • Military experience

  • Annual planning and tracking experience

  • Document management and organization

  • Understanding of restorative justice practices

  • Knowledge or familiarity with any of the following: veterans issues, impacts of war and militarism, trauma, militarization of the police/schools, international solidarity efforts
