Accessible Banking for ALL

The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is pushing major legislation to address financial inequity, starting with…BANKING DESERTS!

The Credit Desert Act of 2023 will increase access to reputable loan services and decrease the presence of predatory lenders in predominantly Black communities across the state.

Low-income communities, typically majority Black and Brown, are often located in banking deserts without access to adequate banking services. As a result, borrowers in these areas often turn to predatory payday lending for financial services and may be faced with triple-digit interest rates, sometimes exceeding 600 percent. Addressing the root cause of financial inequity will provide low-income Georgians with the financial resources they need and promote economic advancement for low-income and Black and Brown communities.
