Add your name if you agree: I DEMAND THAT FACEBOOK, GOOGLE, TWITTER, TIKTOK AND THE REST OF SILICON VALLEY DEFEND MY RIGHT TO DISCUSS ABORTION AND CONTRACEPTION ONLINE.
Lawmakers in South Carolina have introduced S. 1373, a bill based on model legislation written by the National Right to Life Committee that makes it illegal to “aid, abet or conspire with someone” to obtain an abortion.
That explicitly includes providing information on how to safely receive an abortion over the phone or online, meaning any website, or even post, informing people about how to safely receive an abortion would be illegal in South Carolina, and any other state where this model bill is introduced and passed.
For now, the big tech companies will decide whether users can freely discuss their reproductive rights online. Will they stick up for free speech and allow users to post freely about abortion access or cower under these right-wing threats? That's why we're asking the Enough is Enough community to make their voices heard: add your name if you demand that Silicon Valley preserves our first amendment rights to discuss abortion access and reproductive rights online.
