Who We Are: The Call to Action for Racial Equality in West Virginia is a coalition of community leaders devoted to combating racism. We identify racial issues within our own communities, build partnerships to address them, and get active in the fight for Racial Equality in West Virginia. C.A.R.E. is currently in partnership with Charleston Police Department on an ambitious new 8-point collaboration aimed at building upon Charleston Police Department’s role as a national leader in the arenas of race relations, community policing, and youth engagement. C.A.R.E. Youth Council is one of the 8 initiatives!

The Mission: The goal of C.A.R.E. (Call to Action for Racial Equality) Youth Council is to have young people leading in Racial Justice positive and productive ways. C.A.R.E. Youth Council is for Charleston based young people, approximately between 15-25 yrs old, and will organize events four times per year, and make policy recommendations that will improve the relationship between minorities and the Charleston Police Department, reduce racial arrest disparities, and make our communities safer.  We are also looking for young people who want to lead in their own schools and communities.
