Apply to work with the Student PIRGs in Ohio!

Join our internship teams at the Ohio State University and Oberlin College!

The Student PIRGs are an organization that trains students to run strategic campaigns to protect the environment, make college more affordable, and promote civic engagement. We have remote internships where students can learn valuable organizing and activist skills to make a difference on issues that they care about. Learn more about our internships here.
Colleges and Universities offer great classes to learn about all of these problems, and the impacts they have on our country and communities. However, it’s often hard to know how you can put that knowledge into action. That’s where we come in. The Student PIRGs are based on a model that has been helping students make positive change for almost 50 years. Recently our students on over 100 campuses have come together to:
  • Talk to over 360,000 students about how to register, how to vote safely and ensure their vote is counted to help reach near historic youth turnout in the last election.
  • Pass bans on single use plastics, like plastic bags and foam take-out containers in over 17 states.
  • Convinced the first 2 campuses and an entire University System in the country to sign the pledge to ban single use plastics.
  • Saved students more than $40,000,000 in over 10 states by working with dozens of campuses to create open source textbook programs like University of Maryland and UMASS Amherst.
As an intern you will spend 10-15 hours a week attending trainings, recruiting volunteers, and working on projects and campaigns that will make your community better. You’ll attend weekly trainings and run campaign events.
