On Monday, Target announced that it will be expanding its paid family leave policy from two weeks to four weeks for full-time and part-time employees. Four weeks is still not enough to recover and bond with a new family member.

Target is one of the few companies that addresses the caregiving need, but 1 in 6 people living in the US still provide an average 20 hours of uncompensated caregiving support to a loved one—four weeks is not enough.
Offering leave for full-time and part-time employees is huge, and not something we expected to see from Target. As big as this news is though, it doesn’t go far enough. Medical experts suggest at least 6 months of paid family leave is optimal for maternal and child health—Target is missing the mark. We can celebrate the new commitment, and also #WeExpectMore from Target.
