Can You Make a Quick Call To Help Cut Plastic Packaging by 50% in New York?

Call to help NYS cut packaging waste in half, reduce climate change emissions, protect environmental justice communities and more.

The legislative session will end on June 6 and we need your voice to help get a landmark plastic packaging reduction law over the finish line in New York.

Please call your State Assemblymember with an urgent request to support speedy passage of a strong and intact Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act. This bill (A5322b) introduced by Assemblymember Deborah Glick would require a 50% reduction in single-use plastic packaging over 12 years, reduce climate change emissions, ban 19 of the most toxic chemicals and substances (think lead, PFAS, BPA, phthalates, and more) that are currently used in packaging, and make the companies responsible for packaging waste responsible for paying for its clean up, instead of taxpayers like you.

1. Dial your Assemblymember. (Not sure who your Assemblymember's phone number is? Click here to find it.) Note: if you can't reach someone at the first number you dial, please try one of their other office numbers.

2. When someone picks up, use the script below:

“Hi, my name is _your name_. I'm a constituent calling from _your town or city_ because I'm very concerned about plastic pollution and the thousands of toxic chemicals that are used in plastic packaging - especially in food packaging.

I'm calling to ask the Assemblymember to please push for speedy passage of the Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (A5322-b) that was introduced by Assemblymember Deborah Glick.

I know the Assemblymember is a co-sponsor and I appreciate his/her support of this important legislation but since there are only a few weeks left of the shortened session I'm calling to ask the Assemblymember to go one step farther to lead on this issue by reaching out to Speaker Carl Heastie (pronounced "hasty") to ask him to please bring the Packaging Reduction Act up for a vote on the Assembly floor this month.”

3. Thank the person for taking your call. They may ask you to verify your address, etc.

4. Once you've hung up, please take a moment to fill out the form on the right

to let us know how your calls went -- a very important step!

Thank you so much for helping to stem the tide of plastic pollution in New York State.
