Leonard Leo’s vast network of moneyed interests was behind the right-wing packing of our Supreme Court. And his close personal connections with the MAGA Justices is no secret. Leo connected Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas with the wealthy and powerful interests. Thomas is even godfather to one of Leo’s children. Leo is also the one who arranged Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s fishing vacation with right-wing private equity billionaire Paul Singer.

Now, one of Leo’s interests, Consumers’ Research, is going before the Supreme Court in a case fighting critically important FCC regulations. Leo’s vast funder network has provided hundreds of millions of dollars to Consumers’ Research, and its executive director has called Leo “a good friend and adviser to Consumers’ Research.”

The conflicts of interest for Thomas and Alito in this case are crystal clear. That’s why we sent a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts urging him to ensure Thomas and Alito recuse themselves from the upcoming Consumers’ Research case. Now, we need the public to make their voices heard, too.

Supreme Court Justices shouldn’t rule on cases where their decision could benefit a friend and financial backer. The Supreme Court has ethics guidance and a code of conduct for this exact scenario.
