Let’s Build Safer Roads and Stronger Communities: Support the DRIVE SAFE Bill
Thousands of undocumented Michiganders are forced to drive without licenses every day just to get to work, take kids to school, or access medical care. Current laws block them from legally obtaining driver’s licenses or IDs, creating unnecessary risks for themselves and others on the road.
The DRIVE SAFE bill package is a common-sense reform that restores the ability for all Michigan residents, regardless of immigration status, to access driver’s licenses and IDs.
This policy existed in Michigan until 2008 and is already law in 19 other states. This policy will provide:
- Safer Roads: Licensing ensures all drivers are trained, tested, and insured. States with similar policies report fewer accidents and hit-and-runs.
- Economic Benefits: DRIVE SAFE could generate millions in state revenue from fees and boost local economies by helping workers and families thrive.
- Dignity and Equity: Undocumented immigrants are vital to our communities. This legislation lets them drive legally and live safely.
Michigan’s Democratic leaders must act before this legislative session ends. Add your name to demand the Michigan Legislature pass the DRIVE SAFE package now.
