Call Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to Pass Packaging Reduction

Call today to urge the Legislature to pass the strongest possible packaging reduction act this week.

Urge Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to bring the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (Assembly Bill 5322-d) to a vote the next time the Assembly is in session. The matching Senate bill (Senate Bill 4246-d) passed in June 2024.

This bill will help address rampant plastic pollution in New York State by reducing plastic packaging by 30%, requiring companies to make their remaining packaging truly reusable or recyclable, eliminating 17 toxic chemicals from packaging, and prohibiting plastic burning, plastic-to-fuel, and chemical recycling from counting as recycling. The bill will also save municipalities hundreds of thousands of dollars by requiring companies to pay for the waste management of their excessive packaging.

Call Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie's Albany office at 518-455-3791 (if you can't get through, try 718-654-6539). When someone picks up, use the script below:

"Hi, my name is ____ and I am calling from ____to urge Speaker Heastie to pass the strongest possible Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (A5322-d) the next time the assembly is in session”

Bonus: call your Assemblymember! Dial the Assembly Switchboard at 518-455-4100 and ask to be connected to your Assemblymember’s office. If you’re not sure who your Assemblymember is, click here to look them up.

“Hi, my name is ____. I'm a constituent calling from ____to urge the Assemblymember to please support and vote yes on the Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (A5322-d) if it comes to a vote next time the Assembly is in session.”

Thank you so much for helping to get this critical bill over the finish line in NYS.
