Urge NYS's Legislative Leaders To Prioritize The Packaging Reduction Act
Please make two critical phone calls today to urge the leaders of the NYS Legislature to put people over plastic by prioritizing The Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (S1464/A1749), a critical bill to reduce plastic pollution, packaging waste, and climate emissions, ban 17 of the most toxic chemicals used in packaging, and give recycling a big boost.
1. Dial 518-455-3791 to reach Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (it's pronounced "hasty").
When someone picks up, you can use this short script:
“Hi, my name is NAME and I’m calling from YOUR TOWN/CITY to urge Speaker Heastie
to support the Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act
(A1749) introduced by Assemblymember Glick. This bill is
the key to reducing packaging waste, cutting climate change emissions,
boosting recycling, and protecting environmental justice communities. I hope the Speaker will prioritize putting A1749 on committee agendas and bring it to a vote this session.”
Thank the person for taking your call. They may ask you to verify your address, etc.
2. Then hang up and dial 518-455-2585 to reach Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
“Hi, my name is NAME and I’m calling from YOUR TOWN/CITY to urge Senator Cousins to support the Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act (S1464) introduced by Senator Harckham. This bill is the key to reducing packaging waste, cutting climate change emissions, protecting public health by removing toxic chemicals from packaging, boosting recycling, and protecting environmental justice communities. The Packaging Reduction Act passed in the Senate last June and I urge the Senate Majority Leader to prioritize putting this bill on committee agendas and bringing it to a vote this session.”
3. Once you've hung up, please take a moment to fill out the form on the right to let us know how your calls went -- a very important step!
Thank you so much for helping to stem the tide of plastic pollution in New York State.
