Call on the U.S. Senate and Department of Justice to Initiate a Formal Investigation of Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas Now

Americans deserve to understand the full scale and scope of the multi-faceted, decades-long effort to corrupt the Supreme Court of the United States. It’s the Senate’s moral and legal responsibility to determine who is benefiting from it, who is paying for it, and how to stop it.

Ongoing investigations by ProPublica, the New York Times and other outlets confirm that the “Honorable” Clarence Thomas received millions of dollars of gifts from an array of billionaires with business before the Court. Those gifts included:

  • 38 destination vacations
  • 26 private jet flights
  • 8 helicopter flights,
  • VIP skybox tickets to sporting events
  • Stays at luxury resorts
  • Private school tuition for a relative
  • An invitation to an exclusive golf club
  • A “loan” for a $267,230 luxury recreational vehicle

The Ethics in Government Act requires that all federal employees, including those on the Supreme Court, disclose “the identity of the source, a brief description, and the value of all gifts ... from any source other than a relative of the reporting individual during the preceding calendar year, except that any food, lodging, or entertainment received as personal hospitality of an individual need not be reported.”

There is no exemption for private jet flights, and while Thomas claims the gifts were from personal friends, these so-called friendships with people and companies that have cases being heard by the court all began after Thomas joined the Court.

By knowingly and repeatedly refusing to disclose these and other gifts, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas violated the Ethics in Government Act. In addition to a full investigation of these issues, the Senate must also refer Justice Thomas to the Department of Justice for the appropriate criminal investigation.

Demand the U.S. Senate and Department of Justice Initiate a Formal Investigation of Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas by adding your name now.

Dear Leader Schumer, Chairman Durbin, Chairman Wyden, Chairman Blumenthal, and Chairman Whitehouse:

We demand that you escalate your inquiries into undisclosed gifts received by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas from billionaire benefactors and use all procedural tools necessary -- including the issuance of subpoenas -- to initiate multi-committee public hearings into the corruption of Clarence Thomas and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Americans deserve to understand the full scale and scope of the multi-faceted, decades-long effort to corrupt the Supreme Court of the United States. It is your moral and legal responsibility to determine who is benefiting from it, who is paying for it, and how to stop it.

As you well know, ongoing investigations by ProPublica, the New York Times and other outlets confirm that “Honorable” Clarence Thomas received millions of dollars of gifts from an array of billionaires with business before the Court. Those gifts included: 38 destination vacations, 26 private jet flights, eight helicopter flights, VIP skybox tickets to sporting events, stays at luxury resorts, private school tuition for a relative, renovations on his mother’s house, an invitation to an exclusive golf club and a private “loan” for a $267,230 luxury recreational vehicle.

The Ethics in Government Act requires that all federal employees, including those on the Supreme Court, disclose “the identity of the source, a brief description, and the value of all gifts . . . from any source other than a relative of the reporting individual during the preceding calendar year, except that any food, lodging, or entertainment received as personal hospitality of an individual need not be reported.” 5 U.S.C. § 13104(a)(2)(A).

There is no exemption for private jet flights, and while Thomas claims the gifts were from personal friends, these so-called friendships began after Thomas joined the Court.

By knowingly and repeatedly refusing to disclose these and other gifts, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas violated the Ethics in Government Act, 5 U.S.C. 13104 (a)(2)(A). In addition to investigating these issues within your various committees, you must also refer Justice Thomas to the Department of Justice for appropriate investigation.

Sincerely,
