Call To Action: Oppose Senate Tax Bill
Updated November 20, 2017:
The non-partisan Tax Policy Center has evaluated both the Senate and House Tax Bills. Their assessment is: "Compared to current law, 9 percent of taxpayers would pay more in 2019, 12 percent in 2025, and 50 percent in 2027." This means that half of American households, some 63 million, will eventually be subjected to a tax increase.
Previous Information:
Now that the Senate Tax Bill has passed the Finance Committee, it will go to the Senate Floor for a full vote the week after Thanksgiving. Although Congress will be home for the holidays this coming week, we still need you to call your senators and leave a voicemail, asking them to vote NO on the Senate Tax Bill.
Here are articles from Politico, LA Times, and the NY Times to get you up to speed.
Sample Script:
My
name is [your name] and I am your constituent. I strongly oppose the
tax plan being considered right now.
This last minute tacking on of the
repeal of the ACA Individual Mandate is an abomination. Not only will
this Tax Plan give millionaires and
corporations a tax cut, but it will raise taxes for most Americans, especially for those middle class families who will be making under $75,000 a year. The
Healthcare Reform bill has been voted down MANY TIMES already. To
include it again just to try to pass the tax bill shows that you are
consistently disregarding your oath to represent your constituents.
I will be paying close attention to how you vote as my representative in the Senate. Goodbye.
