Call your legislator before Tuesday Feb 27!

STOP SB 202, INAAUP logo

We think the House will vote on this on Tuesday Feb 27.

The House Education Republicans have shown they're not interested in hearing from academics. This will be the same for the rest of the House. We need to call as constituents, and get 5 friends to call also.

Look up your representative here: https://iga.in.gov/information/find-legislators

Phone their office or legislative aide. If you're shy, you can call after hours and talk with the machine.  But it is better to call in the day and tie up the phone lines.

If it's busy,  instead call House Majority Leader Todd Huston's office at 317-232-9677, or House Education CommitteeChair  Bob Behning 317-232-9753. Call your rep again later, especially if you know they already oppose SB 202.

Say something like:

Say, "I am a constituent of Rep. [Name]." Give your name and address, so they can confirm you are a constituent.

"I'm asking the representative to oppose SB 202. "

[Give a reason. Here are a few we suggest, or use your own"]

  1. "This bill will harm the economic growth and development within the Hard Tech Corridor, Indianapolis, and our rural communities."
  2. "Indiana's colleges and universities are large employers within the state, and are conducting important research related to the nation's priorities, especially the CHIPS Act. We do not want to jeopardize these contributions."

"I would like to hear back from the Representative on what they plan to do with their vote. Thank you."

The people staffing the calls will not argue with you - they will just write your information down and what you called about. One call is like 100 emails.

Email or text 5 friends - non academics, academics - with the same information. Here's something you can use to text people:

Hey - the House Ed committee passed SB 202 to the full House yesterday. The House might vote on Tuesday 2/27. We need to call legislators’ offices asap. Can you please call your representative as a constituent to oppose SB 202? Instructions, script and tracking are here: https://bit.ly/stopsb202-call-your-legislator

Then fill out the rest of this form.

You can do this.
